CUSTODY DOCUMENTATION APP FOR FATHERS

How GreyRock Works

A step-by-step walkthrough of every feature designed to protect you, your record, and your relationship with your children.

The Problem Every Father in Custody Faces

High-conflict custody situations are won and lost on documentation. Not on who is the better parent. Not on who cares more. On paper.

When a modification hearing comes — and in high-conflict cases, it usually does — your attorney will ask: "What do you have?" If the answer is a few text screenshots and a rough memory of what happened last month, you are at a serious disadvantage.

The other side may be filing detailed incident reports, tracking every exchange, and building a narrative. Your documentation needs to match — and it needs to be timestamped, verbatim, and formatted in a way that a family court judge can read in five minutes.

GreyRock is the system that makes this possible, starting from your first day of use, with no account required and no complicated setup.

Step 1

Log Every Interaction

After any custody-related event — a text message, phone call, exchange, missed visit, or anything else — open GreyRock and log it in under 60 seconds.

The logging form is structured deliberately. GreyRock asks you to enter the verbatim quote in one field and your interpretation in a separate field. This mirrors how courts evaluate evidence: what was actually said, versus what you believe it meant.

Every entry is automatically timestamped. You can attach a risk level (1–5), tag the type of incident, and attach screenshots. The app never modifies or backdates your entries.

"You remember what happened. Your attorney needs dates, times, exact words, and a documented pattern. That's a different thing entirely."

Even a simple "Received." — logged within 90 seconds of a exchange confirmation — builds a pattern over time. Consistency is more valuable than detail on any single entry.

Step 2

Hold Fire Before You Reply

This is the feature that fathers thank us for most. Before you respond to a provocation, tap Hold Fire.

A guided ten-minute pause begins. During that pause, you are walked through the Grey Rock method: what to feel, what to ignore, what not to send. By the time the timer ends, the reactive impulse has passed.

Hold Fire then offers you pre-written Grey Rock reply templates — short, factual, and emotionally flat. Or you can write your own, informed by the calm the pause created.

Every Hold Fire session where you do not send a reactive message extends your Grey Rock streak. Your streak is visible on the home screen. In court, a 90-day streak of calm responses tells a story no argument can match.

"The Hold Fire feature alone has saved my case. I would have sent that reply and regretted it. Instead I have a 47-day Grey Rock streak." — Single Father, Ohio

Step 3

Streaks: Your Behavioral Record

A Grey Rock streak counts the consecutive days on which you maintained composure — did not send reactive messages, did not escalate, and logged each interaction instead of ignoring it.

This is not gamification for its own sake. Courts, GALs (Guardians ad Litem), and custody evaluators look for behavioral patterns over time. A 90-day streak is a documented pattern of emotional regulation that is difficult to argue against.

The streak resets if you log a reactive reply. That accountability creates a powerful incentive to use Hold Fire instead.

Your streak, along with every other metric in the app, is included in the PDF report your attorney receives. The evaluator sees both the incidents and your response pattern side by side.

Export: Attorney-Ready PDF Reports Pro

When you or your attorney need documentation — before a hearing, during mediation, or when filing a motion — tap Export.

GreyRock generates a fully formatted PDF report in seconds. The report includes:

  • Every logged incident with timestamp, type, and verbatim quote
  • Risk scores (1–5) for each incident
  • Pattern analysis: frequency by day, incident type distribution
  • Your Grey Rock streak graph for the reporting period
  • Custody schedule compliance summary (if schedule is set)
  • A formatted cover page identifying the document as attorney-privileged

The PDF can be shared directly from your phone via email, AirDrop, or any other sharing method. You can select any date range — a single week, a full year, or everything since your first entry.

AI-Drafted Replies

When you need to respond — not just log — GreyRock's AI reply feature gives you a court-safe draft in seconds.

Paste the message you received. Select a tone: Grey Rock (minimal, factual, emotionless), BIFF (Brief, Informative, Friendly, Firm), or Boundaries (clear boundary-setting without escalation). The AI drafts a reply in that style.

You review it, edit it, or discard it. The app does not send anything automatically. You are always in control of what leaves your phone.

Example: You receive "You're a terrible father and you know it." The Grey Rock AI draft might return: "I've noted your message. Regarding [scheduled matter], I'll follow up through the app." That is it. Nothing more.

The reply is also automatically logged as a pending entry, so if you send it, it becomes part of your record.

Step 6 Pro

Parenting Schedule Calendar

Enter your court-ordered parenting schedule once. GreyRock tracks every scheduled exchange and flags deviations automatically.

When the PDF report is generated, it includes a custody schedule compliance summary: how many scheduled exchanges occurred, how many were missed, how many were modified without agreement. This section alone can be decisive in a modification hearing.

You can also use the calendar to track your parenting time percentage — useful when arguing for or against schedule adjustments.

Exchange Tracking

Log each exchange as it happens — late, early, or missed. All timestamped.

Compliance Summary

Automatically calculated from your logged exchanges vs. your court order.

Holiday Schedule

Enter holiday custody arrangements separately. Track them the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GreyRock only for fathers?

GreyRock is designed primarily for fathers in high-conflict custody situations, but any parent who needs to document custody interactions can use it effectively. The app's language and framing is tailored to the father's experience, which is intentional — there are plenty of apps for both parents. This one is for you.

Is GreyRock admissible in court?

GreyRock is a documentation tool. The records you create can support your case, but what is admissible depends on your jurisdiction and the specifics of your case. Your attorney will determine what to introduce as evidence. Consult your attorney. GreyRock does not provide legal advice.

Can my co-parent see my entries?

No. GreyRock is a single-user app. Your co-parent never has access to your entries, your streak, or your reports. Disguise Mode lets you hide the app under a different name on your home screen so it is not identifiable if someone looks at your phone.

Does GreyRock read my text messages?

No. GreyRock never accesses your messages without your action. You choose to copy and paste or manually type a quote into the app. The app cannot read your inbox, your messages, or any other private data on your phone independently.

What happens if I lose my phone?

Pro users can enable encrypted cloud backup. Your data is backed up automatically and can be restored on a new device by signing into your account. Free users' data is stored locally only — if you lose your phone or uninstall the app, the data is gone. We strongly recommend enabling cloud backup, which is a Pro feature.
